Just my thoughts and opinions

About me

If you use a search engine of your choice and make a few connections, you will find some information about my activities on the internet and in real life. Probably more than I sometimes wish for, but actually nothing that bothers me much. Still, I’d like to give you a brief overview of myself here.

My name is Nicolas Kerscher. My girlfriend came up with Kernic from that. Even though it’s obvious: Ker from Kerscher, nic from Nicolas. The reversed alternative wasn’t quite politically correct and was quickly discarded. I’ve been blogging about various topics since 2010. Starting with a blog about my experiences in EVE Online, followed by various private blogs under different domains. Most were short-lived, only eXeler0n.de was continuously active from 10/2019 to 11/2022. However, this blog replaces that one, so no new content will appear there.

But my life didn’t start there. I spent my childhood and youth in the beautiful region of South Baden, close to the borders of Switzerland and France. I came into contact with computers and the internet early on. My interest in them has not waned to this day. In my youth, this passion led to a bumpy but passable school career, ultimately ending with a high school diploma (Abitur) in my pocket.

Despite, or perhaps because of, my interest in IT, I decided against further education in that field. I thought turning a hobby into a profession was a bad idea. My first attempt in surveying turned out to be a wrong decision. However, I still found logistics exciting, and so I completed a dual study program at the DHBW Lörrach in Business Administration with a focus on Transport, Forwarding & Logistics. A dual study program means that I was paid for my studies, but had to work during the semester breaks and could put my newly acquired knowledge into practice.

Of course, I continued to pursue my hobby during this time. EVE Online was my main game, blogs were written, and I also created other content. So I was and am what is generally called a nerd. Professionally, I stayed with my training company, a logistics service provider for automotive suppliers, and rose from clerk to shipping manager and department head. Until the desire for a shared daily life drew me to Hesse.

From 2017, I was employed as a team leader for operations control at an online retailer. An exciting job where you have your fingers in all the processes of a shipping warehouse. From management to processes, technology to IT, everything was included. And then it happened. I also took on the position of Product Owner for Logistics. I had been doing this additionally since 2021. Thanks to a major project, this meant more working hours than I would have liked.

Fast forward to 2023. I now work as a Product Owner at a Swiss eCommerce company. No day-to-day business, no unrealistic capacity planning. So, significantly less stress. In return, I commute one day a week from Frankfurt to Zurich. If it weren’t for Deutsche Bahn, it would almost be pleasant.

Nevertheless, more time for my hobbies – for example, this blog.
