I was recommended Brotato as a game, and if you don’t know it: it’s a lot of fun. Through Brotato, however, I came across another game that I enjoy even more: Backpack Battles.

Backpack Battles is actually a pretty simple game, at least at the beginning. You choose a class and start with a small backpack and a few items. The goal is to expand your backpack, buy new items, and combine them correctly.

Classes

****Ranger An archer with a focus on luck and critical hits.

****Reaper A death mage with a focus on damage-over-time and debuffs.

****Pyromancer The Pyromancer burns their enemies and chains painful attacks for high damage.

****Berserker Brute damage, rage, and defense are the elements of the Berserker.

To combine items, they are either socketed or arranged correctly next to other items. If you place two flames next to a dagger, it becomes a flaming dagger. If you place other fruits and vegetables around the banana, they all activate faster. Some of the combinations are visible in the descriptions and through displayed slots, while others you only see when you place things next to each other. So you’re guided, but you still have to experiment. If you never place a second flame next to the dagger, you won’t find out that it turns into a flaming dagger. Assuming you’re lucky enough for a dagger to be for sale in the shop, which refreshes after each round or for gold.

Unless you read the extensive Backpack Battles Wiki, where all items and their combinations are listed. It’s definitely worth taking a look. There you can also find out what effects the class items have, with which you unlock and choose a subclass in round 8.

That’s really all there is to say. It’s a pretty cheap game and provides many hours of entertainment. Oh, and you play against other people, even though there’s no chat function. But this means you’re constantly surprised by the combinations they’ve discovered.
