My name is Nicolas Kerscher. My girlfriend created the nickname “Kernic” from it. Ker from Kerscher, nic from Nicolas.

I have been running a blog since 2010. Initially, these were my experiences I gathered in EVE Online, and later I wrote about private matters across different domains. My last longer-running blog eXeler0n.de ran from October 2019 to November 2022 and has now been replaced by this site.

Background

I grew up in southern Baden, near the Swiss and French borders. Despite my early interest in computers and the internet, I consciously decided against pursuing IT professionally. Converting a hobby into a career seemed unfavorable to me.

After an unsuccessful start in a surveying apprenticeship, I completed a dual degree program in Business Administration with a focus on logistics and transport at DHBW Lörrach. This program allowed me to earn money while studying and apply what I learned during practical phases.

Career Path

I started as a case officer at a logistics service provider for automotive suppliers and advanced to shipping manager and later to department head. From 2017, I worked as team leader for operational control at an online retailer, where I was responsible for processes, operations, and technology. From 2021, I additionally took on the role of Product Owner Logistics.

Since 2023, I have been working for a Swiss eCommerce company as a Product Owner. The position is significantly more relaxed than my previous roles, but it requires a weekly commute from Frankfurt to Zurich.

This current professional situation gives me more time again for my hobbies and this blog.
